Jaipur has hundreds of web design agencies and freelancers, and quotes for the "same" website can vary wildly. Here is a practical checklist to help you choose a partner you won’t regret.
Before you contact anyone
Write down, in a few lines:
- What the website must achieve (enquiries, sales, bookings, credibility)
- The pages and features you think you need
- Your rough budget and deadline
- Who will update the site after launch
This makes quotes comparable and conversations faster.
The 12-point checklist
1. Look at real, live work
Ask for links to live websites they built — not just screenshots. Open them on your phone. Are they fast, clean and easy to use?
2. Check relevance
Have they built something similar — an online store, a clinic site, a B2B catalogue? Relevant experience saves time and mistakes.
3. Meet the people who will do the work
Will you speak with the actual designer and developer, or only a salesperson? Direct access usually means fewer misunderstandings.
4. Get a written scope
A proper quote lists pages, features, revisions, timeline and what is not included. Vague one-line quotes lead to disputes later.
5. Understand the total cost
Ask about domain, hosting, paid plugins, content writing, photography, and yearly renewals. The cheapest initial quote isn’t always the cheapest website.
6. Clarify payment terms
Milestone-based payments (for example, an advance to start and the balance on delivery) protect both sides. Be wary of requests for full payment upfront.
7. Confirm ownership
You should own the domain, hosting account, website files and code after payment. Insist that accounts are created in your name.
8. Ask about speed and SEO basics
Will the site be mobile-friendly, fast and set up with basic SEO (titles, descriptions, sitemap, Search Console)? These should be standard, not expensive extras.
9. Ask how you will edit content
Can your team change text, images and prices without calling the developer? Ask for a short training session at handover.
10. Discuss security and backups
Who handles updates, SSL, backups and malware protection? What happens if the site goes down?
11. Understand support after launch
Is there a free support period? What does ongoing maintenance cost? How quickly do they respond?
12. Check communication
Do they reply clearly and on time during the sales stage? That is usually the best it will ever be — if it is slow now, it won’t improve later.
Red flags
- No live portfolio or only template demos
- "Rank #1 on Google guaranteed"
- No written scope or contract
- Accounts registered in the agency’s name
- Pressure to decide immediately
